The price of petrol depends on various factors like exchange rate of rupees to dollars, crude oil prices, global signals, fuel demand, etc. When international crude oil prices increase, fuel prices in India also go up.

Additionally, the price of petrol in the country is determined by payments to refineries, excise duty, dealer commission, and value-added tax (VAT). After adding these factors, the retail price of petrol almost doubles. This is why the price of petrol and diesel varies in different states.
